STA Parents’ Association Makes $500,000 Gift to STRIVE
The Parents’ Association voted on January 14, 2014, to give $500,000 to the STRIVE Campaign. The generous gift will support the athletic fields project and will “name” the new practice field (adjacent to the baseball and stadium fields), where teacher-coaches and student-athletes will work closely together, developing boys’ skills and character.
Noted Parents’ Association President Tom Billington ’82: “On behalf of fellow St. Albans parents, and as a St. Albans alum, I am privileged to be able to announce this gift to support the School as it rebuilds the athletic fields. The Parents’ Association’s gift will benefit St. Albans for generations to come.”
Athletic Director Gary Schnell expressed his appreciation for the gift: “The Parents’ Association’s generous gift shows how dedicated they are to our entire student body and to the philosophy behind the teacher-coach model that we have at St. Albans. We are very grateful for their support.”
The gift—to be made over five years—results directly from the Christmas House Tours, the Parents’ Association’s most successful (and largest) annual fundraiser, and many other parent-led initiatives. Through the Christmas House Tour, the Parents’ Association will also continue to support grants to faculty for professional development and classroom initiatives and bonuses for faculty and staff.
Added Billington: “The Parents’ Association’s ability to fund $500,000 for the STRIVE Campaign can happen only because of our wonderful parents and our community. Each year, school parents dedicate thousands of volunteer hours, lend their immense talents, and give generously in so many ways.”
During the previous campaign, the Parents’ Association helped build Marriott Hall, with a gift that created the Faculty Convocation Room, and supported the Faculty Mortgage Supplement Program, now fully funded.
